Building the right foundation for your child

I was reading a book, "Your Kids Are Your Own Fault: A Guide For Raising Responsible, Productive Adults" by Larry Winget. He is a different sort of Guru who doesnt mince his words to tell you the hard truth.

This is a challenge faced by many parents who have to deal with "fiercely independent kids". Well, it could be a blessing with kids you can be proud of but when things dont turn out satisfactory, you often wonder where you could have done better for the child.

We know how important it is to nuture the child with the right values & giving the child room to grow in a positive environment. However, much of this effort is made so much easier when the parents start this path even before birth.

This means getting good supplements in addition to eating balanced nutritious meals. Prenatal vitamins and the all important folic acid will help the mother to be see through a healthy pregnancy. A good omega3 fish oil supplement at least from the third trimester all the way through lactation is also essential for the child's health and developing brain.

New mothers who have high omega3 stores who also breastfeed their infants have been found to have healthier babies. The child's brain continues to grow and parents who continue to supplement their toddlers with good fish oil supplements after weaning also found to be smarter too.

Your mom was right. She is still right about the Fish.

Do you remember the time when you were a child, your mom tried to get you to eat fish, saying that it is good for your brain? Perhaps mealtimes wasn't the happiest memories of your childhood?

Well, she was right and she is still right about the Fish. Today, we have hundreds of clinical trial and research papers supporting the importance of eating fish. Fish is an important source of essential fatty acid (EFA) which is needed to promote the growth and development of the child's health, mental and visual functions.

This EFA, especially, Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is critical to helping your child to a great headstart in life. There are also numerous studies that showed that children with low DHA status are at risk of respiratory illness and tend to experience behaviorial and mood problems later on in life.

While we know that a balanced and nutritious meal is important, sadly the modern diet is usually not an ideal source of essential nutrients. Your child's favorite fish sticks and fried fish cannot be considered as a good source of essentail fatty acid.

So, it is important to supplement your child's meal with a good fish oil, particularly for those who are averse to the taste and smell of fish.

Give your child a Headstart in Life

Any mother will want to give her child the best possible start in life and she can never start too soon if she wants a happy, healthy, snd a smarter child.

It is imporatnt to consume a balanced & nutritious fresh food when she is conceiving her child but the modern diet is sadly lacking of many essential nutrients. That is why she is recommended to take prenatal vitamins. But there is one more critical supplement she needs: the very important DHA Omega3 fish oil.

This DHA Omega3 will help her through her pregnancy as well as to give her new born a headstart in life. Mothers should continue to breastfeed her child for as long as she could and the DHA is going to be beneficial to the growth and development of the child's health, brain, and visual functions.

If you are a parent a young child then you must visit this site: http://www.smarterkid.info/. There is so much useful information that you can learn and help to give your child a headstart in life.

Distilled water a potential health risk?

Andy Ho, Straits Times, 20 Mar 10 wrote: ".... the fashionable bottle of drinking water is unlikely to provide the beneficial minerals one can get in our tap water. In fact, if not remineralised, bottled water might, in the long run, even be aggressively bad for our health."

Look at the official water analysis by PUB. No mention is made for magnesium. I reckon if there is any trace element of magnesium in the water, then it must be negligible.

Hence. Andy Ho's article warning that drinking bottled water could be harmful to our body but public/tap water is practically bereft of magnesium to be of any significance to our daily mineral needs.

Other agencies & respected journals recognised the seriousness of nexium-plavix interaction and alerted the medical community. So when when FDA finally issued a warning, then there is no reason not to pay heed if you are still doing this combination.

The only safer alternative recommended is pantoprazole as it does not affect CYP4502C19 which is necessary to activate Plavix.

Are you taking a Placebo?

When your life is teethering on the edge of uncertainty, then you want to make sure you make sures you use the best information out there to improve your quality of life.

For those heart patients who are taking Plavix blood thinner to help their heart work easier but are also taking acid-reducing PPI Nexium for their GERD (gastric reflux)or any of these like Tagamet, Prozac, then they might as well be taking a Placebo.

The drugs may make the anti-clotting drug Plavix dangerously less effective which means 3.58 times greater risk for major adverse cardiovascular events such as death, heart attack, and stroke. This risk was published in December 22, 2008.
